NDDOT I-94 Sign Replacement - Valley City, ND
Lowry Engineering was chosen by the NDDOT to perform construction inspection on this nearly 1.5-million-dollar sign replacement project along I-94 in the Valley City district. The project was spread over 106 miles, and it included the installation and removal of guide and information signs on W-shape posts and round pipe by Newman Signs out of Jamestown, ND. The intent of the project was to update the signs (exits, rest areas, etc.) to the 2009 MUTCD standards as to maintain retro reflectivity requirements. Important aspects Lowry Engineering inspected on the project was determining proper vertical and horizontal clearance was being obtained from the roadway to the new sign panel. Staff completed daily reports on work completed, equipment used, and labor force on-site; created pay quantity reports; reviewed the contractor’s payroll; and completed all change order documentation. All reports and forms were kept up-to-date in the NDDOT’s online record keeping system resulting in a mostly paperless project. The project started in April 2016 and completed in October 2016.
